Black pearls are said to represent hope and healing. In addition, they are rare. Similarly, Blacks in ocean science are rare gems. But we are aiming to change that by cultivating a welcoming community, fostering inclusivity, and amplifying diverse voices. Through these efforts, we aspire to inspire a new generation of Black leaders in ocean conservation, ensuring a more equitable access to education and resources while inspiring positive change to protect our marine ecosystems.
Identical twin sisters, Kamaura and Jasmine Taylor, have always had a passion for marine animals and marine science. At age 16 they decided to put that passion to good use and founded the Black Pearl Conservation Crew! Black pearls are rare. They represent hope and healing - the perfect symbol for their movement!
